Dusty old helmet, rusty old GUN

FREEDOM:
Dusty old helmet, rusty old gun,
They sit in the corner and wait -
Two souvenirs of the Second World War
That have withstood the time, and the hate.

Mute witness to a time of much trouble.
Where kill or be killed was the law -
Were these implements used with high honor?
What was the glory they saw?

Many times I've wanted to ask them -
And now that we're here all alone,
Relics all three of a long ago war -
Where has freedom gone?

Freedom flies in your heart like an eagle.
Let it soar with the winds high above
Among the spirits of soldiers now sleeping,
Guard it with care and with love.

I salute my old friends in the corner,
I agree with all they have said -
And if the moment of truth comes tomorrow,
I'll be free, or By God, I'll be dead!

Audie Murphy (1925-1971)
recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor
cowboy, movie star, poet, patriot. . .

I have a rusty old gun as old as Audie I keep meaning to show and tell on here. Thanks for the reminder. It didn't fight any wars, though.

Hell, I bought a revolver once simply because I accidentally bought brass for it. (I could have sworn it was .44 mag brass, but when I got home it was .45 Colt)

Seems to be a good reason to buy another firearm.

Otherwise, just swap with someone on your local gun board. (or over on arfcom)

AD, ever stop by over off I-30 in Greenville to give his Memorial a little salute...and contemplation?
I have...and a salute to all those others who DON'T have Memorials...Like my father.

Right on!

A salute to ALL who have served.

If you really think about it we, the soldiers, in many cases have more in common with the ENEMY, the soldiers who have served their country, than we do with our own countrymen.

The more freedom is extinguished, the more those old helmets and guns tire of waiting for the moment.
